The April performance was the opening night of a two week run by Carl Rosa at the Lyceum.
The full programme was as follows:
First week: Mon Cav & Pag; Tue Tales of Hoffmann; Wed Jewels of the Madonna; Thu Tannhäuser; Fri The Miracle, or The Story of Antoine; Sat mat Carmen; Sat eve Merry Wives of Windsor.
Second week: Mon Lohengrin; Tue Mignon; Wed Stella Maris; Thu Faust; Fri Tristan and Isolda; Sat mat Trovatore; Sat eve Bo Girl.
While the cast of the companion Pagliacci contained names who would be leaders of the company for several seasons, the two men in this cast are little known. The Santuzza, however, Eva Turner, rather makes up for that - she was clearly by now emerging as a major artist.
Cast details for 12 April are taken from OperaScotland's copy of the programme for the first two evenings in Edinburgh. The completely different line-up for 20 December is from a programme in Aberdeen City Library, duplicated at the V&A Collection in London..
