The Beecham company joined O'Mara and Carl Rosa in bringing Bohème to Scotland, emphasising its growing popularity.

Where this performance differed from the others lay in the decision by the management to the effect that Puccini's work was short enough to require a contrasting, and lighter, work to complete the evening.

To this end, the young conductor Eugene Goossens jnr took a brief secular cantata by J S Bach and adapted it as an opera-ballet in a style perhaps reminiscent of Rameau. Phoebus and Pan duly joined the repertoire for a couple of seasons.

Abbreviated cast details are from a review in the Scotsman of 6 November 1918.
