Performances of Pierrot Lunaire in Scotland are still rare. It isn't an opera, but the reciter is required to pay attention to the dramatic elements of the work. Cleo Laine was always a versatile and adventurous performer, and this is an interesting example.
In the first half of the Nash Ensemble's programme, pieces by Richard Rodney Bennett (Commedia 1) and Sebastian Forbes (Partita) sandwiched the performance by Cleo Laine of some songs by Charles Ives.
