Five years after Scottish Opera first mounted this charming farce, it was picked up by the Academy as an excellent vehicle to put the students through their paces. Instead of pairing it with another early Rossini opera, this time it was followed by a genuine French piece from half a century later - Offenbach's Les Bavards (The Chatterboxes) of 1862.
The production was in the hugely experienced hands of Peter Ebert, for so long a leading practitioner at Scottish Opera. Peter Stanger had also spent several years on the music staff at the big company.
