Cromarty Youth Opera's mark their forthcoming fifth anniversarywith a world premiere: Tod! based on The Tale of Mr Tod and other writings by Beatrix Potter with words and music by Andrew Gant.
Benjamin Britten and librettist William Plomer had decided on Mr Tod as the subject for a children's opera but Potter's publishers had refused permission. Well, Cromarty Youth Opera picks up where they left off. William Kerley returns to Cromarty for his fifth opera and designer Rachel Szmukler makes her Cromarty debut. Gant has created a compelling drama full of character and charm based, to a certain extent, on the Britten models, Noye's Fludde and The Little Sweep, in an immediately engaging musical style with audience involvement in three songs which will be taught at the performances.
Admission is free and doors open at 18.30 for 19.00 performances in Cromarty West Church on August 8, 9 and 10.
