John Butt's Dunedin Consort have been performing several of Handel's English oratorios in recent years. Here they revealed a much rarer work, in the last of the secular cantatas from his years in Italy, before he moved to London. Like his slightly earlier opera Agrippina, it is full of good things.
The programme also contained Silete, venti! an exciting cantata for solo soprano not heard here for some years. It opens with some very impressive storm effects from the orchestra. This contrasted neatly with the concert's opening, a suite of the famous Water Music.
