Innfomation taken from the review in the Glasgow Herald (11 June) and the cast from a Glasgow Theatre Royal programme surviving in the National Library of Scotland.
"Carl Rosa Opera are serving Glasgow well with some dozen productions in the fortnight that opened in the King's Theatre last night and Bizet's Carmen made a very popular first choice, attracting and obviously pleasing a pretty full house. In staging, singing, choral and orchestral work, the production did generally reach a fair, though variable, standard.
''William Aitken's Don Jose looked a very respectable young man rather unhappily watching an alter ego becoming emotionally entangled with the gypsy Carmen. His was a reliable enough, but rather stolid, performance that never quite got to grips with the part in marked contrast to Gita Denise's portrayal of the temperamental, passionate Carmen.''
For the Glasgow performance, Arthur Wallington took over from John Heddle Nash, who was indisposed.
Carl Rosa Opera's last performances in Scotland were as follows:-
Week commencing 10 June: Mon Carmen; Tue Cav & Pag; Wed Bohème; Thu Hoffmann; Fri Benvenuto Cellini; Sat m Barber of Seville; Sat e Trovatore.
Week commencing 17 June: Mon Don Giovanni; Tue Rigoletto; Wed Tannhäuser; Thu Manon Lescaut; Fri Barber of Seville; Sat m Carmen; Sat e Faust.
Given twice were Barber of Seville and Carmen, with one performance each for Cav & Pag and the other nine operas.
''Arther Wallington, taking John Heddle Nash's place, provided an experienced Escamillo and Nancy Creighton a most sympathetic Micaëla and some of the best singing of the evening. The minor parts too had their quota of good things to offer. Arthur Hammond conducted."
