This tight little tragedy by Vaughan Williams has found a regular niche in the repertoire of the various British music colleges. The leading role of Maurya is the perfect choice for a promising dramatic mezzo.
In the programme it was the serious meat in a sandwich that began and ended with two frothy comedies - Sir Lennox Berkeley's Dinner Engagement and Puccini's Gianni Schicchi.
Cast details are as reviewed in the Glasgow Herald of 28 June. No copy of the programme has yet been traced.
Further performances are to be added.
