The Scotsman began its review with an account of the other, rather lighter part of the evening - Rossini's song cycle Serate Musicali - a Musical Evening. The singers for this were listed as sopranos Judith Pierce and Margaret Maurice, bass Andrew Field and tenor Adrian de Peyer.
For the second item, 'It was the latter who, in Janáček’s Diary of a Man Who Disappeared, gave the most purposeful and telling performance of the evening. This is an exhausting work of great emotional range, and Adrian de Peyer came through with signal success. Dramatic lighting and the all-too-short appearance of Bettina Jonic did much to make this performance an exquisite affair. Pride of place, however, must go to Tom Gligoroff, who accompanied the entire programme with an astute sensitivity and élan and assured the success of the evening.'
