Non-professional 30+ Singing Competition
Opera Festival Scotland value the vast quantity of non-professional talent which exists across communities, believing in the power and passion of community musicians.
These musicians bring enthusiasm for opera into their local communities and we would love to encourage them.
The Non-Professional 30+ Singing Competition is designed for singers who did not have the opportunity to study music at an earlier stage in their life and were therefore unable to pursue a musical career.
Although these singers may not have studied the art full time, we recognise they have nurtured their talents over the years through vocal tuition and various performance opportunities.
Please come and enjoy the talents of Simon Willshire, Rosamund Sutherland, Joanne Whalley and Holly Slater, who will sing for judges Michael Downes (Director of Music - St Andrews University) and Jean Webster (Vocal Coach - Aberdeen College of Education & North East of Scotland Music School).
One of the biggest operatic singing competitions in Scotland, the Young Artists Singing Competition, is the highlight of Opera Festival Scotland's inaugural programme.
The festival welcomes both national and international finalists Ted Black, Julieth Lozano, Suzie Gibbons and Jacobo Ochoa to perform in front of a high-profile panel of judges.
Panellists include international soprano and Chair of Voice at the Royal College of Music Janis Kelly; award-winning composer Paul Mealor; Head of Casting for English National Opera Michelle Williams; Head of Casting for Scottish Opera Sarah-Jane Davies; Scottish soprano and educator Linda Ormiston, and General Director for Opera for Peace Julia Lagahuzere.
Accompanied by a Dundee favourite, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and conducted by John Frederick Hudson, the four finalists will sing some of the most challenging music in the opera world. An exciting programme combined with competitive energy, this concert will be an afternoon to remember!
