Gigli's Visit to Dundee
'Generally acccepted in all parts of the world as the greatest living tenor and the legitimate successor of Caruso, Beniamino Gigli will sing in the Caird Hall, Dundee on Monday evening at the first of the Celebrity concerts arranged by Mr Harold Holt.
'This is Gigli's first appearance in Dundee, and he should prove a great attraction. His British tour is introducing lovers of good singing in this country to one of those superb voices which come only once in several generations. He is the leading representative to-day of the great Italian operatic tradition.
'The tenor's programme contains less Italian music than one would expect. He will sing two famous operatic numbers by Bizet - ''Mi por d'udir ancor,'' from The Pearl Fishers and the ''Flower Song'' from Carmen. Other songs will be ''Ombra mai fu'' (Largo) by Handel, ''Dalla sua pace'' from Don Juan (Mozart), ''Un rêve'' (Grieg) and Rachmaninoff ''In the silence of the night''.
'Fausto Cleva will be at the piano.'
