The annual tour by Ellen Kent's organization is now under the management of senbla as well as her own Opera International company. The performers are the Ukrainian Opera and Ballet Theatre of Kyiv.
The repertoire iconsists of three of the most popular favourites, Carmen (36 performances), Madama Butterfly (39) and La traviata (6). Scotland will see the first two in Edinburgh and Glasgow, La Traviata does not come north, no doubt due to awareness by management that Scottish Opera is soon reviving the excellent staging by Sir David McVicar.
Carmen seems particularly popular at present. A second Ukrainian company, from Dnipro, will visit in March. The Edinburgh International Festival in August, will also host a staging from Paris.
