A British premiere for the first opera composed by a woman and probably the first opera to be performed outside Italy. Many student opera groups have been known to mount enterprising productions, but this piece, complete with its 'horse ballet' will be difficult to beat.
The Italian title is a bit of a mouthful, and most abbreviations would lead to confusion with other works by Handel and his contemporaries - Ariosto's source material was hugely popular. So labelling it as Alcina's Monsters seems a good idea - even if the dragon pulling Alcina's chariot was a sweet-natured beast called Billy.
