Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail has been brought to the Edinburgh Festival on several occasions, but this cast is particularly enticing, especially on those evenings when the incomparable Fritz Wunderlich sang Belmonte.
This was the first visit by the Stuttgart company, and their programme included, in addition to this lovely Mozart work, one Wagner masterpiece, Tristan und Isolde, and little-known rareties of the early romantic repertoire, in Weber's Euryanthe and Lortzing's Der Wildschütz.
