This appears to be the Scottish première of Lortzing's wonderfully tuneful, and unjustly neglected, human comedy. It also provided a further Festival appearance in a leading role by the great tenor Fritz Wunderlich.
It was an enjoyable postscript to the Stuttgart visit, which had also included operas by Mozart (Entführung), Wagner (Tristan) and Weber (Euryanthe).
Cast details are from our copy of the Festival programme book.
