Scottish Opera gave three performances of the excellent Besch staging on a brief visit to Switzerland and Germany. This was just a couple of months before the Zurich company brought its highly-regarded Monteverdi cycle to the Edinburgh Festival.
Apart from Peter Grimes, these performances appear to be the only occasion when Alexander Gibson conducted any Britten with the company. Linda Esther Gray also extended her repertoire.
