Ledlanet continued its ambitious record of mounting operas which at the time were unknown in Scotland - it was twenty years since the Glyndebourne production had come to Edinburgh.
The cast as usual contained a mixture of experienced artists and relative novices, of whom Dennis O'Neill is the most outstanding example. He had already appeared at this venue as a notable tenor soloist in the rarely played Beethoven oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives.
Perhaps the most memorable contribution came from the young Trinidadian mezzo Sandra Browne as Idamante, in her only Scottish operatic appearances - though she did come back the following month for a performance of Gerontius in Edinburgh.
