Read more about the opera Marriage of Figaro

The immediate revival for John Cox's production was in the generally safe hands of Matthew Richardson.

His attention to detail included replacing the Countess's scarlet costume with a less jarring pink. This time the performance was sung in an English translation by Michael Irwin, although the small roles were generally sung by the same regulars who had sung in Italian the year before.

The new principals included a very successful Figaro and Susanna from Nicholas Folwell and Joan Rodgers.
