Whitehall Theatre Box Office – 08717 029 486
1920s Art Deco Cinema/Theatre owned by the Amateur Musical and Dramatic Societies of Dundee. It has operated for 25 years as a charity without public subsidy through the good will of volunteers. To make ends meet it also presents professional shows and is available for hire as a conference venue.
The auditorium can seat 735 and four patrons in wheelchairs. In fact, to find a larger capacity you have to go to Edinburgh or Aberdeen. Front of house there is a medium sized foyer with a small box office, a manager’s office, mens and ladies toilets and a café that can seat 72 overlooking the grassy area through large glass windows and an ushers’ room.
In the mezzanine there is a cosy bar area that can seat 60. Backstage there are a kitchen, showers, toilets, seven dressing rooms, a large rehearsal room, and the theatre office. On the first floor there is a scenery dock to enable scenery to be trucked on stage.
When attending the Whitehall Theatre, entering the tastefully decorated front foyer you are greeted by smiling volunteers who guide you to the box office or appropriate auditorium entrance. When inside the auditorium you are immediately struck by a sense of the traditional theatre experience as you notice the large glittering chandeliers above your head. Whether you visit the bar or coffee bar in the interval you will not be disappointed with the choice of hot and cold beverages, snacks and alcoholic drinks offered.
Wheelchair access to the Auditorium is available through the coffee bar with separate toilet facilities for the disabled located nearby. Whether you attend a period drama, an Elvis tribute or a pantomime you are assured that your time at the Whitehall will be well spent.
The theatre is situated to the north of Dundee University campus, and is served by local buses, the no 22 being most frequent from the town centre. Many people prefer to walk. Car parking is available.
Please note that alcoholic drinks are not permitted in the Auditorium.
