Today a private residence, this house was once home of the Ledlanet Nights arts festival. founded and led by the publisher John Calder.
Performances took place in the round in the hallway, provided with a small performance staging. A stairway and an upper balcony offered a memorable and intimate setting, particularly suited to baroque opera.
In the later years acaffolding provided a second tier and space for additional bench seating bringing up the capacity to 155 or so.
Plans for a 400-seat purpose-built auditorium on land behind the house never got much beyond the exploratory stage.
The auditorium at Ledlanet was often criticised for the challenge of balancing voice and instrument within such a relatively small space but nevertheless it was the scene for some memorable operatic experiences.
