Gaiety Theatre, Glasgow Glasgow

The Gaiety was situated at 31-35 Sauchiehall Street, and opened on 30 March 1874. Although it seated 1400, it was demolished and replaced by the much grander Empire on the same site, with a capacity of 2100 seats.

Marianne R. Hay, in the 1980 Glasgow Room Publication No.15, entitled Glasgow Theatres and Music Hall: a Guide (to be found in the Mitchell Library) gives figures of 1369 seated and 32 standing. She also gives the address as 35 Sauchiehall Street or 121 West Nile Street.
