That invaluable guide to theatres, Arthur Lloyd, gives the following information:-
The Tivoli Theatre in Brown Street was opened by John Young in 1902, who had opened the Alhambra Theatre in Bellfield Street in the 1890s. The Tivoli staged variety and drama but the Theatre changed to cine variety around 1913 and was destroyed by fire in 1924. A replacement Tivoli Cinema, paid for by the insurance money, opened in Bonnybank Road and continued until 1977, complete with Continental films, and a dining room.
The above information on the Tivoli Theatre was written for this site by Graeme Smith in February 2013.
