English baritone.
Benjamin Luxon enjoyed an extensive international career in opera, concert and recital. His association with Benjamin Britten included several seasons touring with the English Opera Group, singing roles such as Demetrius and Tarquinius. Britten composed the title role in his opera for television Owen Wingrave for him.
His first appearance with Scottish Opera was in 1965 as Shchelkalov Boris Godunov. Later on, he became a regular principal as Eugene Onegin, also leading new productions as Wozzeck and Papageno. In concert he appeared with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra singing Victorian solos and duets with a regular colleague, the tenor Robert Tear.
Verdi roles with ENO included Posa and Falstaff. He had a long association with Glyndebourne, including Onegin on the tour to Edinburgh. Later parts in Sussex included Count Almaviva, Don Giovanni and Monteverdi's Ulysses, all directed by Sir Peter Hall.
