David Alden's visceral and fast-moving staging from the 1980 Edinburgh Festival came back for a revival with most of the same cast, meticulously rehearsed by Richard Jones, and this time performing in English, with every word clear. The only major newcomer among the singers was the German-based American, William Lewis, a short-notice replacement.
The revival's main importance will always lie in the fact that it was the only set of performances when Sir Simon Rattle worked with Scottish Opera.
Additional dates to be added.
