John Pryce-Jones Suggest updates

Born South Wales, 11 May, 1946.

Welsh conductor.

John Pryce-Jones was educated at Worcester and at Corpus Christi, Cambridge, where he was musical director of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society.  He studied under George Hurst and Rafael Kubelik.

He was Assistant Chorus Master at Welsh National Opera,  then Chorus Master and Conductor at Opera North  As Head of Music for Scottish Opera he conducted a wide range of operas by Mozart,  Verdi,  Offenbach,  Tchaikovsky,  Puccini,  Lehár and Tippett. 

He became Music Director of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in 1990 for two seasons   then joined Northern Ballet in Leeds in 1992.  He continued to work with them until his retirement in 2019.

He conducted orchestral concerts with the BBC Welsh,  the City of Birmingham and Ulster Orchestras.  He was also Artistic Director of the Halifax Choral Society for many years.

Work abroad included Rigoletto in Ireland, conducting at the International Opera Festival in Bulgaria.  He also worked frequently in Scandinavia.
