Jane Irwin studied at the University of Lancaster, then in Manchester at RNCM.
Her debut at the Royal Opera was as Second Norn in Götterdämmerung and she made her first appearance at Bayreuth as Siegrune. Roles with Scottish Opera include Suzuki, Maddalena Rigoletto, Thea The Knot Garden and Anezka The Two Widows, as well as Waltraute and Second Norn in the Ring. She made her first appearance with Opera North as Suzuki.
She has made frequent concert appearances at the Edinburgh Festival, including the Verdi Requiem, title role in Handel's Poro, Brangäne and Purcell's Dido. She also has an extensive concert and recital repertoire.
