Damian Thantrey Suggest updates

English baritone.

Damien Thantrey studied Law at Clare College, Cambridge before training at the Royal College of Music, where he studied under Margaret Kingsley and won the Tagore Gold Medal. Roles at college included Mr Gedge in Albert Herring and the title role in Owen Wingrave.

With Scottish Opera he has sung Schaunard, Eisenstein, Chao Lin (A Night at the Chinese Opera) and a Brother in The Seven Deadly Sins.

He has worked in France, where performances have included the Traveller roles in Death in Venice (Metz), Mr Lindquist in A Little Night Music (Paris, Théâtre du Chatelet) and the English Clerk in Death in Venice (Opéra de Lyon), a role he also sang at the Aldeburgh and Bregenz Festivals.

With Opera North he played 2nd Shepherd & Spirit in Orfeo and the Messenger in Oedipus Rex. He sang a Flemish Deputy in Don Carlos with Welsh National, and with English Touring Opera he sang Ferdinand in The Duenna. At Covent Garden he made his debut as Marullo and created the role of Deputy Mayor in Anna Nicole (Turnage 2011).

Roles with Chelsea Opera Group include the Duke of Rothsay in The Fair Maid of Perth and Zurga in The Pearl Fishers, and at Garsington he appeared in two Mozart rarities, Der Stein der Weisen (British premiere) and La finta giardiniera.
