English tenor.
Sydney Russell was employed largely as a character tenor. Initially he sang with the Denhof and Quinlan companies. When the BNOC was established in 1922 he joined them immediately, working with them through to the company's demise in 1928.
He was highly regarded particularly for his interpretation of Mime.
In retirement he lived in Dublin, where he taught, and directed productions of the Dublin Grand Opera Society.
