Mezzo-soprano.

Laura Margaret Smith is The Robertson Scholarship Trust Scottish Opera Emerging Artist. 2014/15. She graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she was the winner of the Florence Veitch Ibler Prize for Oratorio Singing. In 2013 she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Georg Solti Accademia di Bel Canto. She was also a Samling scholar and a Britten-Pears Young Artist.

At the Conservatoire her operatic roles included Hermia A Midsummer Night's Dream; Ottavia L'incoronazione di Poppea; Lucretia The Rape of Lucretia and Florence Pike Albert Herring. With Edinburgh Grand she sang the title role in Carmen. She created two roles in the premieres of operas by Julian Wagstaff - Clarissa The Turing Test (Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2007) and Chrissie Miller Breathe Freely (University of Edinburgh/Scottish Opera 2013). She sang the latter role in the recording released in 2015.
