Lovat Crosley spent a season as a soloist with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. He then transferred to the Carl Rosa, initially as a soloist. However he soon took on some principal parts, including Wilhelm Meister (Mignon) and Pinkerton (Madam Butterfly).
