Barbara Cole Walton studied at the University of Victoria, moving to Glasgow for further training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) with several bursaries and awards.   These included  Sylva Gelber Music Foundation, the British Columbia Arts Council, the Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Trust.  She gained master's degrees in Vocal Performance and Opera.

Performances at the RCS include Thérèse/Tirésias in Poulenc’s Les mamelles de Tirésias, Lisette in Puccini’s La rondine, and Queen of Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.  Other appearances include Raucous Rossini (Fanny La cambiale di matrimonio,  Isabella L'inganno felice), Berenice L'occasione fa il ladro); British Youth Opera (Wild Goose & Fido in Britten’s Paul Bunyan); FAVA Opera (Eurydice Orphée aux Enfers);  Diva Opera (Blonde); ENO Baylis Youth Project (Queen of Night); Wexford Opera ShortWork (Norina).

She joined Scottish Opera in 2016 for chorus work and new opera workshops, singing the title role in Delia by Tom Cunningham, as well as for Rough for Opera, singing the soprano roles in The Doll Behind the Curtain by Amir Mahyar Tafreshipour.   She covered the Controller Flight, singing the role in Flight Unwrapped performances. She covered both Naiad and Echo Ariadne auf Naxos.   Further roles include Shepherd Boy Tosca.

Her concert experience includes soprano soloist in Handel Messiah, Mozart Requiem and Mass in C minor.
