Russian conductor.
Alexandru Samoila studied at the St Petersburg Conservatoire, later returning for advanced study at the Kirov Opera. He was appointed artistic director and chief conductor of the Chisinau National Opera in 1981. His various tours have taken him to Japan, Italy, Iceland, France, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Qatar and the Lebanon.
He has toured the British Isles several times with the Ellen Kent organization, with a repertoire including Bellini (Norma), Verdi (Nabucco, Traviata, Aïda), Puccini (Bohème, Butterfly, Turandot), Mascagni (Cavalleria Rusticana), Leoncavallo (Pagliacci) and Bizet (Carmen).
