Early in her career, Sue Blane worked as a designer at the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow, later working elsewhere, including the Wexford Festival and the National Theatre in London.  Sometimes she designed the sets and costumes, sometimes just the costumes, often in collaboration with Maria Bjørnson.
