Elijah Moshinsky's ideally atmospheric production was redirected by Caroline Sharman for a long sequence of fifteen performances, nearly all in Glasgow. Katerina Kudriavchenko, from the Bolshoi, was a surprising, but effective, choice for Mimì, while Sally Harrison made an excellent Musetta. Gordon Sandison, who sang Schaunard early in his career, as do most baritones, made a reappearance as Marcello. Peter Bronder was a good Rodolfo, though he later concentrated more on character roles. Also, a good young Australian bass, Stephen Bennett, spent a season with the company.
