Another rarity from the French repertoire, Pénélope proved to be a rewarding experience - the subtlety is almost to be taken for granted in a composer with Fauré's talent for songwriting. But the sense of drama was less expected and very welcome.

This performance, consistently well sung, and beautifully conducted, made for a thoroughly rewarding evening.
