This was the piece selected to launch the second series of five 15-minute mini-operas, and it certainly made an immediate impact.
Amid thunder and lightning, a man marches on, covered from head to toe in a capacious cloak and with his face obscured by a huge, floppy, broad-brimmed hat. He carries a long spear (or rod) in his hand - we are clearly in the Wagnerian world of Siegfried Act 3, with Wotan about to wake Erda.
Well not quite, but that shows the scope of the authors' ambition, and even with a mere fifteen minutes to cover lots of metaphysical ground, this was an absorbing little work, beautifully presented.
