Ruy Blas 1886Carl Rosa Opera Company

Read more about the opera Ruy Blas

Marchetti's major work had enjoyed an auspicious launching at La Scala, and was performed widely, reaching London (and Glasgow) in 1878. The Carl Rosa company introduced their production in Liverpool on 4 February 1886, before touring it extensively, and to judge from the starry cast, clearly gave it their best shot. But like many of their brave experiments, it didn't last for long.
