Born Galway 1852.
Died Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 18 April 1903.
Irish baritone.
Leslie Crotty spent several seasons touring with Carl Rosa.
After the founder's death in 1889, he and his wife, the star soprano Georgina Burns, set up their own company which toured for a couple of seasons with a lavish production of Rossini's Cinderella. This was conducted, initially, by young Henry Wood, whose parents were friends of the Crottys.
Unfortunately, their ambitious enterprise collapsed after two seasons. The couple separated and both singers were unable to recover from their difficulties.
