On the face of it, this was a routine revival of the superb Besch production, though it was still directed by Besch gimself. Its importance is simply for the fact that Gibson was giving it for the last time in Scotland before his death. The three major roles were given to singers new to the company, who all fitted in well, without imposing any particular individuality of interpretation. The Hungarian Tosca did sing the role quite beautifully.
