It seems strange that there should be only a single performance of such a popular work in the Scottish tour, but it would have been seen elsewhere with this cast. At least the Herald critic went along to check out singers who had not done these roles here before. Barton McGuckin was an old hand, but Ella Russell, Luise Meisslinger and Alec Marsh were singing the parts in Scotland for the first time.
