A brief review is given in the Glasgow Evening Post (1 May).

"The popularity of Verdi's Il trovatore was evidenced when it stood the test of a Saturday night's throng at the Royal.  Though there are several strong passages, which were deservedly encored, there is something of a sameness running through this grand opera.  The opportunities for acting, however, are many, and with the strong cast of Saturday the result was an admirable representation.  Mdlle, Ella Russell as Leonora and Mr McGuckin as Manrico had plenty of Scope for their abilities, dramatic and musical, and Miss Meisslinger was very successful in the powerful role of Azucena.  Mr Marsh as Count di Luna was in excellent voice.  The orchestral work went smoothly under the conductorship of Mr Goossens, while choruses were carefully and effectively sung."

The cast for Glasgow (April 29).  The programme for 25 November too is archived in the Mitchell Library
