While its very different style was perhaps a minority taste, Princess Ida could usually be given at least one performance during the course of a three week long stay at a major touring venue such as the King's, Edinburgh. On this occasion, the major point of interest is to see Ann Drummond-Grant, who sang the contralto roles later in her career (making memorable recordings of Katisha and Ruth), here performing the title-role, a demanding part for lyric soprano.
The cast is from our programme for 30 November.
