Although the Carl Rosa had been the first company in Britain to perform Bohème, the opera does not seem to have yet gained the level of popularity enjoyed by Butterfly, even if it far outstripped Tosca.
The Edinburgh performance were reviewed in the Scotsman (25 March). "A Carl Rosa production is notable for its fine ensemble, and everything last night was in admirable keeping. If exception might be taken to anything, the oterwise excellent work of the orchestra occasionally, and principally in the first act, did not admit of the voices coming through with complete effect. Actually they came through, but with some sacrifice of quality." A copy of the programme survives in the archives of the National Library of Scotland.
This was part of Carl Rosa Opera's 1937 tour. (They had missed out visiting Scotland in 1936).
A conventional repertoire was presented for a week at the King's Theatre Edinburgh, followed by two weeks at the King's Theatre Glasgow.
