Tayside Opera, like most of the Scottish amateur companies, went through a phase of financial difficulties that seriously restricted activity.  One advantage taken from the budgetary constraints that made concert performances a necessity was the introduction of a tour of the Tayside area. The cheerful frivolities of Donizetti's Elixir of Love had not been heard for some time, and proved an appropriate choice.
