The scheduling of the Ring Cycle in Glasgow seems unusual by today's standards. Rheingold opened on Tuesday with the others following on Wednesday and Thursday evenings then the final work on Saturday afternoon. The previous week in Manchester seems even odder, with the performances on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Thus the bass-baritone Frederic Austin, cast as Wotan, had to sing his entire role on three successive evenings. This must have been quite exhausting for him. Agnes Nicholls sang all three evenings as Brünnhilde in Manchester, but not in Glasgow.

Cast details are from a Glasgow Ring prospectus in Dundee City Library and a poster for the Manchester season in Manchester City Library.
