On this 1918 tour, Pirates, one of the favourite G & S works, only appeared once. That was at the second Saturday matinee, when no critics attended. While the casting of the two romantic leads may be problematic, with pairs of leading sopranos and tenors alternating, the performers of some, at least, of the roles is predictable.
