Gianni Schicchi 2014Opera Bohemia

Read more about the opera Gianni Schicchi

Opera Bohemia's previous stagings were Bohème, Butterfly, Lucia and Onegin. Now they return to Puccini, this time to the short comedy Gianni Schicchi and their first attempt at comedy, opening at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The large cast assembled here brought together many of the excellent young singers who have played an important role in those early stagings. Newcomers include Andrew McTaggart and Shuna Sendall, already experienced in working with Scottish Opera, as well as the veteran baritone Alan Watt, in a pair of contrasting cameo roles.

Sometimes dubbed Scotland's second touring company (after Scottish Opera), Opera Bohemia have survived - and thrived - for five years now.  Let us hope they can find the funding to develop further.
