The final revival of the beautifully designed Moshinsky/Yeargan staging toured for eleven performances. It still looked superb, and many features were outstanding.
Francesca Pedaci was a lovely, delicate Mimì. The leading men, John Hudson, (in his company debut) and Christopher Purves were also very good, ably backed up by Roderick Williams. The new German bass Panajotis Iconomou, very tall, and thin as a stick, made a beautifully lugubrious Colline.
Guido Ajmone-Marsan again showed himself to be a superbly instinctive conductor of Puccini.
