The second evening of Mary Ann Paton's Edinburgh season saw her follow Rosina with a second of her signature roles, Susanna. Mr Jones, performing the baritone part of Count Almaviva, is a curiosity, as he was also playing the Count in The Barber of Seville during the season - a high tenor role. Several singers appear to have done this, and in the adaptaions by Sir Henry Bishop that were often used the music of Mozart and Rossini will have been freely adapted to suit the performers available.
The advertising does not specify its companion piece on the Tuesday, but on Saturday it is coupled with a short but popular farce. A Roland for an Oliver, in which Miss Paton took the role of Maria Darlington.
