Scottish actor and bass-baritone.
Charles Mackay acted with great success at the theatres in Glasgow and Aberdeen before moving to the company at the Theatre Royal, Edinburgh, under the management of William Murray.
He bacame famous at the end of 1819 by creating the role of Bailie Nicol Jarvie in the wildly successful stage adaptation of Scott's Rob Roy.
